1989 Hamburg, DESY Research Centre
The German electron synchrotron DESY is a research centre for fundamental scientific research. The main areas of research are development, construction and operation of particle accelerators.
In 1989 the circular accelerator with a perimeter of 6336 m was put into operation, the world's largest at the time. For experimental purpose of the super electron microscope HERA, magnets of up to 500 t were supported on steel reinforced Calenberg Perforated™ Bearings.
Right up to now the bearings work perfectly. They ensure the load transfer according to the design without damage and guarantee as well the required movement tolerances for shear deformations and rotations of the components of the facility.
