2012 Zurich cross-city route reference project

Weinberg tunnel links low-level station with Oerlikon

The Zurich cross-city route is one of the largest construction works on the Swiss rail system. The centre piece is the underground Löwenstrasse station, linked to the Oerlikon district via the 4.5 km Weinberg Tunnel.

Calenberg Ingenieure designs, manufactures and markets elastomeric sliding bearings, and statically or dynamically loaded structural bearings (elastomeric bearings) for buildings and structures, sub-ballast mats and trackbed mats for track construction as well as other elastomer-based products for noise insulation and environmental protection.

The ballastless track was built on light and medium mass-spring systems to protect people living above the tunnel from vibration and noise. Supplied in 2012, 5,520 m² of Calenberg USM 1000 W, USM 2020 and USM 4010 sub-ballast mats ensure that the mass-spring systems will remain effective along Section 3 of the line for a long time.

This extensive construction project was commissioned by Swiss Federal Railways (SBB).
