2016 Hotel Hampton by Hilton, Frankfurt

Cibatur will be assuring restful sleep for guests at the Hilton

Lodgings with an excellent reputation are being constructed near the European Central Bank in Frankfurt, where the new Hotel Hampton by Hilton is being built above an underground railway tunnel and right next to a suburban railway line. The vibration protection beneath the structure's base plate is partially positioned on Cibatur as a supporting surface. Our partner Elastomere Lagersysteme Heim GmbH worked together with the contractor's planning team to deliver the required tuning frequency for the bearing at around 8 Hz, using a two-layer layout with Cibatur strips placed back to back. As Cibatur features an unchanging natural frequency under pressures up to 500 kN/m2, a single bearing type can be used beneath the entire substructure, simplifying installation and streamlining work processes.

Two-layer Cibatur as a strip bearing

After consulting the contracted construction company, it was decided to cut the Cibatur rolls up and deliver them to the site in easy-to-handle sections measuring about 1.54 cm long. Two workers covered the surface in just one afternoon, as shown in the adjacent photo. The spaces between the strips remain free of any fill material to ensure effective drainage and prevent fill material having any effect on the tuning frequency. The intermediate spaces are enclosed along the edges of the base plate height offset only, where Cisador strips prevent fresh concrete leaking below and provide flawless attachment to the vertical decoupling matting. Semi-finished components cover the bearing and also form the subsurface for further construction work. The base plate side surfaces and the vertical components will be decoupled from the structure walls in subsequent work steps.
