2016 Refurbishment of listed motorway bridge over Waschmühle valley
The Waschmühle Valley Bridge forms part of the BAB 6 motorway, crossing the steep Waschmühle valley and the K 2 district road from the city of Kaiserslautern to Morlautern to the north of Kaiserslautern.
The two sets of arches in the roughly 250 m-long bridge were spanned with a single reinforced concrete slab with two separate bridges now spectacularly merged into one. The sliding bearing support for the new concrete slab played an important role in this project and had been without precedent in Germany. The sliding surface was built with Calenberg Ciparall sliding bearings. Approval was required due to the special requirements in this particular structure.
