2004 Taipei-Kaohsiung, HSL Line

In 2004 the high-speed line between Kaohsiung and Taipei in Taiwan was constructed mainly as an elevated track with the Rheda 2000 slab track system. Concrete shear cams were used to take up the design forces due to traffic and residual stresses in the concrete.

The shear cams were enclosed with heavy duty elastomeric bearings of synthetic rubber so as to absorb the applied forces elastically. These specially developed bearings have a service life which is at least as long as that of the slab track.
